Black dot near bottom LHS.....what could it be?  Griz country.  2nd time I've turned back on Mt. Denny due to bear activity.

Big Bend peak....just before the Sunwapta pass.

Yum.  Enjoy a feed on the way, whilst on the lookout for Ursus arctos

View of the big bend from part way up Big Bend Peak.

Summit in the background

Found a register from 1942 buried in the summit cairn.

Can never have enuf Western Anemones.

Summit of mtn Redoubt, behind Lake Louise ski area.  Was last up this one in 93 I think.  Did a different route this time.

Grizz country
Well....wouldn't you know it.....a griz.  That's junior's butt, following behind mom.

On my way down Mt. Redoubt, I laid down for a rest on this flat rock for 5 mins.  When I opened my eyes and raised my head....momma griz with junior in tow were making their way up the small creek about 20m away.  They passed by me from where the photo was taken; a distance of about 10 m.  She turned her head and looked right at me (probably thinking; you move and your dead meat) and kept on going, without breaking stride.  My pack with the bear spray was 4 m away.  So on a day when there were NO signs of bear activity, I let my guard down for 5 mins and.........I'm still here!  Crazy.  She would have heard me with my trademark COOOOEEEEE yell earlier and then smelled my as she got closer.  Hence no element of surprise for her.

That's momma bear up there.  Just before she would have gone out of sight, she stopped and started digging.  I watched for 10-15 and then made my way down.

...and the old man survives to celebrate another b'day.

Nose creek.

Mom's 49th b'day.

Car camping.  Lot's of room in the Sienna.

A visit with grandma Lori.
